PVL Finale

In Placer's PVL finale, the Hillmen definitely wanted to end on a high note. Placer's JV started things out with two champions. Mason Packheiser took the 106 pound weight class while Kane Kelley dominated the 132 pound category. That was just the beginning for your Hillmen. In Varsity action, AJ Ferreira got Placer going with a first round pin over Center to secure the top spot at 106. At 113, Logan "Asteroid" Moon took a solid 3rd place. Senior Gavin Sweeney takes his fourth consecutive PVL title at 120 pounds with a first round pin over Lincoln. At 126, freshmen Justus Haskin surprised the field finishing 3rd with his second round pin over Foothill. Thomas Thornton continued to give his opponents flying lessons when in the finals, he threw his Center opponent to his back in the first round for another Placer pin. River Rogers had one of the most exciting matches of the day with his 1 point victory to secure another first place finish for the Hillmen. Bryce Cook 145, Sam Bender 152, Christian Westphalen 160, Jacob Grim 195, and Paul Banks 220 had strong showings all finishing in 2nd place. Francisco Claudio finished 4th at 182, while Joseph Valdez 170, up by a score of 18 to 5, pins his opponent in the third for another 1st place finish for Placer. As a team, Placer finished over 50 points ahead of the second place Zebras to cap a truly amazing PVL season. All 13 wrestlers that competed at the varsity level for Placer will continue on to the division championships next Friday and Saturday at Foothill high school.
