It was a gold medal performance for the Placer Hillmen wrestling team at the D IV championships at Foothill high school. With 7 wrestlers making it to day two of the championships, Placer was poised to light up the mats against some tough competition. There was no "semi slide" for the Hillmen. Six of the Seven wrestlers win their way to the medal round. That means all six were going to be heading to Masters in Stockton next week.

Finals action started with freshman AJ Ferreira at 108lbs. He made short work of his Rosemont opponent. Ferreira simply overpowered his adversary, pinning him in the second round. Senior Gavin Sweeney takes second in a heart breaker against Patterson at 120lbs. Sophomore River Rogers faced his PVL rival for the third time this year and came away with another spectacular victory, securing another gold medal for Placer at 138lbs. Junior Bryce Cook clawed his way to another match up against his nemesis from Center, falling just short to take 4th at 145lbs. Always exciting, Junior Joseph Valdez secured his gold at 170lbs by stifling his opponent and coming away with the victory. Not to be outdone, senior Paul Banks got revenge over Center capturing another gold for Placer!

Placer finished third in team score to end an amazing day of wrestling. Next week's action is at the Stockton arena Friday and Saturday, Feb 23rd and 24th.
